5 Fun Ways to Keep Active at Home – Perfect for Kids & Families!

At The New Croft Foundation, we love seeing children and families in Haverhill get active, stay healthy, and most importantly - have fun while doing it! While we offer exciting half-term activities (which you can check out here), we know that sometimes you need fun ways to keep moving at home too.

So, whether it’s the school holidays, a rainy day, or just a moment where you need to burn off some energy, here are five exciting ways to stay active at home!

The 60-Second Challenge

Got a stopwatch (or a phone)? Pick an exercise - star jumps, squats, toe taps, or even keepy-uppies with a football—and see how many you can do in 60 seconds! Compete with your family, try to beat your own score, or mix it up with different exercises.

Top tip: Make a scoreboard and challenge yourself every day to improve!

Indoor Obstacle Course

Turn your living room or garden into an epic obstacle course! Use cushions to jump over, chairs to crawl under, and a ball to dribble around. Get creative and time each other to see who can complete the course the fastest!

Top tip: Add in a balance challenge, like standing on one leg for 10 seconds or hopping from one side to the other!

Dance Party Workouts

Who doesn’t love a good dance-off?! Put on your favourite playlist, YouTube dance workout, or TikTok challenge and get moving. Dancing is a brilliant way to stay fit without even realising you’re exercising!

Top tip: Let each family member pick a song and create your own mini-workout routine!

Sock Ball Target Practice

No football? No problem! Roll up a pair of socks and turn it into a game:

  • Set up targets (bowls, empty boxes, or even a washing basket).

  • Try to chip, throw, or kick the sock ball into the target from different distances.

  • Make it harder! Stand on one leg, spin before kicking, or add a time limit!

Top tip: This is great for improving accuracy and coordination - perfect for young footballers!

The Floor is Lava!

It's a classic game that never gets old! Move around the room without touching the floor - jump on cushions, balance on chairs (safely!), and create different paths. It’s great for balance, agility, and problem-solving!

Top tip: Add in extra challenges, like hopping on one foot or doing a squat before moving to the next “safe zone.”

Ready for More? Join Us at The New Croft Foundation!

While these at-home activities are super fun, nothing beats getting outside, playing sport, and being part of a team! That’s why we run weekly football programmes and half-term activities to keep kids active, social, and engaged.

Want to get involved? Check out Football in the Community pages to view our weekly prorgrammes and half term activities!
